Hi everyone, welcome back to another newsletter of The Growing Seed. This week I wanted to address something I recently experienced and I think we can all become very complacent with. Jesus dies on the cross to forgive you of your sins.
My church is currently going through the Alpha course which has been such a lovely experience. I have been learning so much and been brought back to the basic truths and foundation of the faith I say I conform to.
Last week we addressed why Jesus needed to die. As I had known, it was to forgive us of our sins and reconcile us to God. I found myself feeling quite numb to and uninterested in this gospel as I was reminded of it. Obviously this sent alarm bells off in my mind. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is the very foundation of what I put my faith in. I want this to be something that penetrates deep into my heart every time I am reminded of it. I want to live every moment with the significance of the cross in the forefront of my mind. Not as if it is an old story I’ve heard too many times.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
I’m not sure what the most effective way is to go about creating this change in my life, but I have a feeling God is much more in control of it than I am. This verse from one of the Psalms is one that I find myself turning back to on a regular basis; praying that God would be the one to restore the joy of Jesus’ work in me.
I think it comes back to the idea of being reminded of what we do know is often more powerful than learning something new. I think spending time reading the Bible and seeking Jesus in every verse, praying in thanksgiving for what He has done and asking to be filled with the knowledge of the cross, and reminding ourselves about Jesus as we go about our day is how we can fight against the cross becoming less impactful over our lives. As they say, if it's out of sight it's out of mind.
Today be reminded that, after sin entered the world, we were separated from God and destined for eternal destruction. None of us are without sin. Out of His unfathomable love for us, God sent His Son to take up our punishment. God Himself died for us so that we could be part of His kingdom and inherit everything we do not deserve. We can live in freedom and joy with a beautiful future ahead of us because Jesus died on the cross. Let us live in celebration and in joy because of this!
Thank you so much for reading today’s newsletter. I hope there are some reminder in this for you to live with the cross being bigger in your life. This is not the newsletter I had planned on posting today but thats the great thing about praying for God to speak through you before starting to write!
I know I have posting at various different times of the day recently, I’ve been trying to find a time that is most suited for everyone. I’d love to get your feedback and know when works best for you.
