I can’t believe we are already at this point of the year. It feels like just the other day that I started university and now find myself being done with the first year. It’s quite crazy to think about. I have learned a lot in the last year and a lot of it I still need to process through but today I thought I would share one of the main lessons I learned:
To take life one step at a time.
In all honesty this was one of the toughest years I have experienced. There were countless times where I found myself feeling incapable of what was required of me. And in those moments all I could do was find enough strength for the very next task ahead of me.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Although I used a phrasing of ‘taking one step at a time’, this is actually a concept taken straight from the Bible. In Matthew 34 Jesus says exactly this; to not worry about what lies ahead but to just deal with right now.
But what should we do instead of worrying?
Jesus tells us to seek His kingdom and His righteousness. This can look like realigning out thoughts from worry to Jesus and saturate ourselves with His Word - aka the Bible. Jesus will ultimately be the one to work all things together for our good (Romans 8:28) and we don’t have to do it on our own. This is such a freeing reality we get to live in and is how I found myself on the other end of every challenge.
When we are carried by the bigger hope of Jesus and the reality He promises us, we don’t have to get caught up in the little moments that seem impossible to overcome. Jesus makes a way and will provide for us.
I hope you are encouraged to live with the same approach and to trust in our Saviour to get you through anything you may be worried about.
