Welcome back to The Growing Seed!
This week’s newsletter is super exciting… we have our first guest writer!
Chelsy, one of our community members is sharing her response to the call of surrendering today. This is something I have come back to countless times recently and I hope you also come back to a beautiful call of surrender as you read her poem.
I first heard this line in Hillsong’s “Touch the Sky”. The lyric doesn’t really make sense when you think about it with human logical. But I think that’s the beauty of living for God. He can take something that doesn’t make any sense to us and show us something so much greater than we ever could have come up with on our own. And in this lyric, He’s asking us to do something that may not make sense to us: lay down our lives – something we cling so tightly to – and allow Him to help us find true life in Him.
As I was spending time with Him this week, He dropped this poem into my heart…
I FOUND MY LIFE WHEN I LAID IT DOWN
Written by Chelsy
Laid down my thoughts
My dreams
My hopes for the future
Laid down the hurt
The fear
The lies I believed
Laid down the pressure
The control
The burdens I carried
Laid down the rush
The noise
The standards I set
But it wasn’t only an abandon
It was an exchange
An exchange of my plans for His
An exchange of the lies for His truth
An exchange of the weight for His rhythms
I laid down my life and found His
And discovered that it was what I was looking for all along
