This week’s newsletter is not what I had initially intended to post about, but isn't that the beauty of surrendering your plans to God!

The Lord encouraged me to speak about something related to Easter and love today. It’s going to be a bit more of a devotional which I don't intend on doing every week but I hope you enjoy it anyways!

There is no greater love than this: to give up one’s life for one’s friend.

John 15:13

This is the scripture that has been placed on my mind when thinking about Easter this year and this newsletter. I think it creates such a beautiful and perfect image of the message of Easter and the Gospel - that we have a God who loves us so so much that He would make the greatest sacrifice so that we can be reconciled to him despite out sin. I recall God’s instruction for Abraham to sacrifice the very son He had promised to provide. Abraham had waited so long for this child and loved him as a father should. And now, this promise was going to be taken away from him by his own hands. I can only imagine all the emotions and pain that comes with it. In the end, God stopped Abraham from going through with it, but God took this burden upon Himself. Our God loved us enough to be willing to sacrifice his only son while we still hated him.

My encouragement for us this Easter is to remember God’s boundless love for us. His love that sacrificed to set you free, His love that is active in the every day detail of your life, His love that is willing to meet you in whatever circumstances and brokenness you find yourself in and His love that doesn’t see you for the sin that should separate you but as his child.

I went to a worship evening recently and part of the message they shared was about our reaction to God’s love. In 2 Corinthians 5:14, Paul encourages the people of Corinth to live for God and says: “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefor all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again”. Paul plainly states that the motive for his actions and ministry was Christ’s love. To be compelled is to be driven or forced to do something. When we experience God’s love, we find ourself being driven to the only reasonable response of giving Him our whole lives. It is such a beautiful reality that when we know God’s love, everything else falls into place and we are enabled to love God back. Sometimes I feel like there is so much for me to do for God and it is my responsibility. This scripture gives me a new perspective of God’s love as being the only motivation that will allow me to surrender my life to God, simply because there is no other reaction I could have.

Sometimes being reminded of what we do know is more powerful than learning something new, so here is a reminder of the love Jesus is desperate to give you.
